Flex Cape is a new generation cape seal, which covers a distressed surface with a base course of 3/8″ minus Flex Seal Rubberized Emulsion Aggregate Slurry (REAS). After the base course has thoroughly cured (typically one week), it is capped with a cover course of a 1/4″ minus Flex Seal surfacing. The relatively low cost surface fills the distresses, preserves the pavement structure, and provides a long lasting, aesthetically pleasing black surface.
Where?
Flex Cape is a treatment for structurally sound pavements with moderately severe surface distresses, such as cracks, moisture damage, rough texture, oxidation and raveling. Less costly than traditional hot mix overlays, Flex Cape is an ideal solution for strained budgets. Using available funds to repair roads before further deterioration prevents more costly total reconstruction. It can be placed on all types of pavements, from residential streets to heavily trafficked highways.
How?
Flex Cape can be mixed and applied through most standard slurry machines, with minor modifications, or alternately, can be supplied through a central plant mixed plant. Centrally mixed Flex Seal Slurry is applied with a specialized slurry distributor.
Why?
Flex Cape is a cost-effective alternative to hot mix overlays. It is
Eco-Responsible
Each Flex Cape (REAS) lane mile*(12′ x 5280′) recycles over 200 automobile tires-more than any other road surfacing process. This water-based material is environmentally friendly, applied at ambient temperature, has no fumes or particulates, and is safer for workers and the public. The City of Los Angeles and Petrochem Manufacturing, in a public-private partnership proudly received a Federal Highway Administration Environmental Excellence Award for Flex Sealâ„¢, which is the base formulation of Flex Cape.
